Chronic pain makes people irritable, and not themselves. And upset. And less-than-functional in life. It is a terrible form of suffering.
There are a variety of sources of pain that my clients from Portland, Seattle and elsewhere have reported to me. From the effects of sports injuries, to auto accidents, to psychosomatic symptoms that have to do with unforeseen aspects of living, and more, I've encountered many sources and causes of chronic pain.
Hypnotherapy, with training to achieve a deep trance, is a great way to create the kind of transformation of consciousness to deal effectively with chronic pain. Sometimes the unconscious, involuntary mind has creative ideas for solving the chronic pain problem and creating real relief and comfort.
A case I greatly appreciated during my early training in hypnosis came from the work of Milton H. Erickson, M.D. the greatest hypnotherapist of the 20th century. He had a married couple in for a session.
The husband had phantom-limb pain. He had lost a leg in wartime. The wife had chronic ringing in her ears—tinnitus. He told a series of well-designed, hypnotic stories. By the end of the session, the man was feeling phantom limb-pleasure, and the woman was hearing music instead of ringing. This therapeutic accomplishment of effective change really inspired me and I sought to learn the patterns of language that, with customization, could help my clients who came to me for relief from chronic pain.
Pain Control and Weight Loss Hypnotherapy Case Study Audio Recording
This pain control case study session recording, offers an audio tape of a session I did with a woman named Shirley which successfully helped with her hip pain. She and her unconscious, involuntary mind opted for a form of cool numbness in place of the hot burning she felt as a result of injuries sustained in a car wreck months prior to our session.
This recording illustrates some of my methods of trance induction, as well as the use of the various sub-modalities to bring about the desired result.
